Event 1 – Jesus’ Baptism

Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-23a

^L When all the people were being baptized, ^K Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee ^M to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

Jesus replied, “Let it be so for now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.”

Then John consented. ^L Jesus was baptized ^K by John in the Jordan. ^L And as he was praying, ^K coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and ^M he saw the Spirit of God ^K descending ^L in bodily form like a dove ^M and lighting on him. ^K And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

^L Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry.
