Event 10 – A Question about the Messiah

Matthew 22:41-46; Mark 12:35-37a; Luke 21:38; 20:41-44

^L All the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple. ^M While the Pharisees were gathered together ^K Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he ^M asked them “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?”

“The son of David,” they replied.

He said to them, “How is it that David speaking by the Spirit calls him ‘Lord’ for ^L David himself declares in the Book of Psalms:

‘The Lord said to my Lord:

Sit at my right hand

Until I make your enemies

A footstool for your feet.’

^K David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”

^M No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.
